Virgin Festival Gets Ready To Rock Vancouver and Toronto in ‘07

Vancouver, BC/Toronto, ON – (January 26, 2007) Richard Branson’s Virgin Mobile announced today that the entertainment extravaganza – Virgin Festival – will play in two Canadian cities in 2007, making this summer one of the best for live music ever.

The summer season will kick off with Virgin Festival taking over Vancouver’s Thunderbird Stadium situated on the University British Columbia Campus on May 20-21. Presenting an incredible line-up of more than 30 must-see artists over the two days on two different stages, the confirmed line-up now includes:

n       Sunday, May 20
o        My Chemical Romance – Celebrating their smash album “The Black Parade”, it’s the  long-awaited return visit to Vancouver since their 2005 performance
o        Billy Talent – Canadian born and back for a repeat performance after playing to 9,000 fans at Pacific Coliseum last week
o        Muse – the UK sensation that recently sold out three straight shows at Wembley Stadium in London

n       Monday, May 21
o        The Killers – Make their hotly anticipated sole Vancouver stop on their “Sam’s Town” tour
o        AFI – recorded an astounding 30 million spins on MySpace
o        Hot Hot Heat – Victoria’s own

More artists will be announced in the coming weeks.

While the expansion of the Virgin Mobile Virgin Festival is exciting news for the West Coast, Toronto will be getting ready to rock for the second year running. The music event of the summer will take pole position near the end of the summer on September 8-9 and this year’s feature line-up will make music aficionados’ mouths water. The Festival will return to what is surely one of the most beautiful and unique festival locations in the world – Toronto Island Park. Details on the line-up can be expected in early spring.

“No matter how you like your music, nothing beats a live experience, so it’s great to be announcing two Virgin Mobile Virgin Festivals for Canada in 2007,” said Richard Branson, Chairman of the Virgin Group of Companies. ”Adding Vancouver to the list of host cities was an obvious choice given the wonderful lifestyle and the obvious love of music by Vancouverites.” Tickets for the Virgin Festival Vancouver are available Saturday February 3rd at 10:00 a.m. at all Ticketmaster outlets, ticketmaster.ca or by calling (604) 280-4444. Ticket information is also available at: virginfestival.ca or virginmobile.ca. We Have A Winner!

Thursday, January 11th, 2007

Congratulations goes out to Dave Caley for responding to us with the correct anniversary that Emerge is celebrating this year….10 years young!  Keep an eye out for our celebratory all-night party in Novemeber.

Dave and a guest will be hitting up Earl Greyhound, The Satin Peaches, Wolfmother, and Bloc Party in the coming months.

Holy crap! Win tickets, Mute Math, Wolfmother, Bloc Party?!

Tuesday, January 9th, 2007

What a start to the new year.  I’m so jazzed about the Earl Greyhound and Satin Peaches shows the first 5 people to email feedback (at) emerge (dot) ca will get a pair of ticket to BOTH shows.  These two bands and the two shows are going to be bananas.  Dan Burke called Earl Greyhound “Jimi Hendrix in reverse” – isn’t that way better than the two film dudes four thumbs up?

Mute Math is coming to Toronto on March 8th at The Opera House.  Limited CMW passes will be accepted.  These guys killed it at Bonnaroo last year and a bunch of other festivals.  Their show at the Elmo had a line-up around the block.

Did you go to V?  Did you see Wolfmother?  Did you go to their Drake show?  All their shows have been bananas.  They’re going to put on a show that you won’t forget any time soon and they keep the hits coming.  “Joker and the thief” and “Woman” are only two of the gems.  March 6th at the Kool Haus.

Finally, I guess the press release is out about the Bloc Party tour at Pitchfork – expect news from us about both Toronto and Montreal dates in the next week or so with regards to on-sale and ticket price.  Sign up for the mailing list and don’t miss out.

You know what – Emerge has a big birthday this year, 1st person to email feedback (at) emerge (dot) ca letting us know what anniversary we’re celebrating this year gets a pair to all the shows… Earl Greyhound, The Satin Peaches, Wolfmother, Bloc Party!  Oh my!

Keep the faith…

Happy ’07 and thanks for ’06

Sunday, January 7th, 2007

Hello one and all blog readers.

First of all I wanted to thank everyone for the support in 2006. It was a great year with some great shows including the June Island show, the Virgin Festival and some insane club shows. We’re looking forward to some great highlights in 2007.

Earl Greyhound

A couple shows in early ’07 that we’re super stoked about include The Satin Peaches who are going to be playing a series of shows in Toronto in the first half of the year. They’re from Detroit and have some serious rock & roll people saying some pretty serious rock & roll things about them. They’ll be playing The Drake on Jan 26th. Their song “Well Well Well Well” – well, its a hit, reminds us that spring is on the way.

Also hitting hard in the press world are Earl Greyhound. I don’t know about you but I just had to bust out the Jack Daniels’ when I heard SOS for the first time. That is some serious guitar and some serious dirty dirty soul or something devilish for sure. Earl Greyhound bring their sins into the Silver Dollar on Jan 18th. Miss this and you’ll be sorry. Dan Burke’s put a couple of his proteges on the bill including Speed Control and No Dynamics.

We have a bunch of other shows we are working on for the new year and are excited about all the great music coming out in 2007. Some big announcements are on the way club show, big show and festival wise so keep your eyes and ears open… from coast to coast.

We value your feedback so keep it coming, visit our website www.emerge.ca and send us some love and/or hate.
